What the hell is up with this new pyramid craze?

Could anyone please tell me why people are putting their Ethereum in these things??

It makes no sense to me.

Is this the coming of the end times or are there people that have never heard of pyramid schemes before and think they can get rich off of them? Or is it just because 4chan are all teens that want to get rich quick?

Please, bring me some sanity.
