Crypto app Delta lying to its users?

Been in crypto for a couple years now. Tried a few price tracking apps before going with Delta. Was originally using Coincap, then Blockfolio. Finally switched to Delta in December after BF shit the bed with their server issues. Delta definitely started out awesome, but recently I’ve reconsidered how I feel about them. The app is starting to show some cracks, but it’s the team I’m more worried about.

First off, the fact that a hardcoded test portfolio mistakenly went live speaks to bad development practices by the team. I’m a mobile app developer in Silicon Valley and at our company (and most tech companies) there are testing environments in place or automated test suites that are used rather than hardcoding something into your server’s codebase. I was really surprised that Delta doesn’t have this, and operates in a development environment where a fuck up like this could happen.

If the Delta app did anything other than read data (i.e. use exchange write API keys or interacted with the exchanges for transactions) this could’ve triggered serious financial loss or worse. Moves like this worry me when they happen at a start up company that asks to have sensitive data run through their app, even if it’s read only.

I went to their subreddit to address the issue, but they only copy and pasted stock responses so I didn’t bother. According to them the issue was resolved, but users are still complaining. They say it’s fixed, but if people are still complaining, then is it really? Are they telling us everything? With most apps, I normally wouldn’t care, but this is a start up that touches many peoples trading data.

Another thing that makes me question the team. Saw a user on Twitter call them out over their claim to have a million users, while Google Play displays Delta with a 100K-500k download badge. As someone in the mobile app industry, I can tell you that 1 million downloads is a lot different than 1 million users. A million downloads translates to something like 300k active users for even the best apps out there. It’s an impossibility for 1 million downloads to equal 1 million users. While this might not seem like a big deal, it makes the Delta team look disingenuous. If they are handling my trading data, I’d prefer they be fully straight up with me.

All of these inconsistencies bother me. Sorry for the rant, but I feel like every company needs to be transparent and held accountable for their actions. Especially in this industry and especially those companies who claim to be transparent.

Now checking out other portfolio trackers with API integration. Would love some recommendations, pros/cons, etc.
